Skateboarder/musician Chuck Treece helped with the Hellfire circuit design by suggesting we make a fuzz sound that Jimi would be hyped on, so the Spitfire fuzz by Roger Mayer, who was Jimi Hendrix’s guitar tech and pedal guy, was selected as a starting point.  We then added an internal noise gate to help tame the hiss and hum at higher gain settings but also give a different character to the end of the sustain tail making it more ragged than smooth and hissy. And since Jimi was a fan of the Octavia, we added an analog octave up circuit on a blend control that offers enough spank to push an already intense fuzz sound right over the cliffs edge.
