ABRASSIVE VINTAGE FUZZ

In 1972 Maestro wowed the pedal world with a new design that offered raw octave-up fuzz tones with glitchy expressive artifacts that could be blended against the original guitar signal. At first, just bass players used them but word eventually got out to their six-stringed brethren. Fast forward to 2025 and you’ll see vintage units selling for thousands of dollars and that’s if you can even find one. Since we make pedals and didn't want to shell out for an original, we built one.
The core of our version is a faithful clone of the original Brassmaster with no value tweaks and even uses the same 2n3392 and 2n5308 transistors and properly rated transformer. Since all of the controls affect the output volume, we added a master volume control at the end of the circuit to make dialing in a usable setting easier but this also helps keep the original tone unaffected. We set up the slimmed down enclosure with top mounted jacks to make it more pedal-board friendly and also added a no-click foot switch wired in true bypass that also performs a momentary function (simply hold down, then release). The pedal also remembers the last state it was in after powering down which can be helpful for people with pedal shelf setups or hidden pedal-board compartments.
